Spend A Day Exploring Avenida Houston
An easy drive from Alexan Enclave is the city's newest dining, entertainment, and arts district.
It's known as Avenida Houston, and the website states that the name "Avenida" comes from Avenida de las Americas, the Boulevard that fronts the George R. Brown Convention Center and runs from Minute Maid Park to the Hilton Americas-Houston hotel.
The district offers something for everyone, and highlights include:
This is Houston's premier sports bar, and it's named after beloved Houston Astros legend Craig Biggio. Its motto is "Not Your Average Sports Bar," and this popular gathering spot features two thirty-foot tall high-definition screens and an extensive beer list. For hungry guests, chefs prepare meals such as Tex-Mex Burgers, Wild Boar Mac & Cheese, and Pescado Tacos.
Grotto's is within easy walking distance from Minute Maid Park and Discovery Green. It's inspired by the ambiance of an old country trattoria and offers a cozy dining area complete with colorful light fixtures, murals, and a fireplace. The menu features several old-world signature dishes such as Pollo Francese that pair well with the restaurant's famous Peach Bellini.
This weekly event takes place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and it brings Avenida Houston alive with strolling musicians, living statues, and other performers.
Dancing in the Streets
Every Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., visitors can learn to dance along the Avenida. The two lessons range from line dancing to tango, to ballroom to hip hop.
