Visit The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Houston hosts several highly anticipated events every year, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This year the fun takes place March 7-26 at NRG Park. Since its inception in 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has grown to become the largest such event in the world, as it draws more than 2.4 million people from across the globe. There is much to see and do including:
Parade - The parade takes place on March 4 as one of the pre-show events. Thousands line the streets as incredible floats and beautiful horses make their way through the streets of downtown Houston.
Livestock Show - Exhibitors from across Texas and the United States come to the Houston Live Stock Show in hopes of winning the championship. Exciting events include Beef Cattle, Sheep Dog Trials, and Dairy and Boer Goats.
Mounted Shooting - Mounted Shooting is a thrilling event where contestants ride their horse though an obstacle course while firing two .45 caliber single-action revolvers at balloons along the course. All contestants use specially prepared blank ammunition for this event.
Wheel of Excellence - Enjoy incredible 360 degree views of the Livestock Show and Rodeo from the Wheel of Excellence. It takes riders to heights of 130 feet and it features 130 air-conditioned cabins with glass floors and leather seats.
Bareback Riding - Considered one of the most physically demanding rodeo events, bareback riding tests the cowboy's strength and ability to make it to the eight second whistle without holding on to any equipment.
