Apartment Decor on a Budget
Want to spruce up your apartment without breaking the bank? Here are some thrifty tips to creating a stylish space.
1 – Wall art… Nothing completes a room like bold artwork. Give your bare walls a splash of color! One wallet-friendly way is by purchasing engineering prints. Go to a print shop with a photo you like and ask for an engineering print (or they can also be known as architectural prints). The quality may not be as high as a traditional print, but you'll be spending much less. Another pricey factor in wall art is framing. To avoid the cost but still get the professional look, mount a big poster on a foamcore board. Don't want to use a print on your wall? Think outside of the box and try using an interesting piece of fabric on stretcher bars instead.
2 – Furniture… Want upholstered furniture without the price tag? Vintage furniture may be the way to go. Look on Craigslist or in a thrift store, and then get it re-upholstered in a fabric you like. Dining room furniture can also be quite pricey. Buy a pair of chairs that you love for the ends of the table, and then mix & match more budget-friendly chairs for the middle.
3 – Rugs… Find a rug that you love but the size large enough for your room is way out of your price range? Purchase an inexpensive rug that will cover the space, and then layer a smaller size of the rug you like on top.
