Best BBQ in Houston
Ah, barbeque. Once associated with central Texas, in the last decade, Houston has become a proud barbeque town with fine restaurants that can hold their own.
Gatlin’s BBQ is considered by many observers to be one of the best Texas barbeque restaurants in the city. It has won the Houston Press Best Barbecue award twice, and prides itself on delivering the highest quality barbeque and genuine down home southern hospitality. All the favorites are on the menu – pulled pork, smoked brisket, ribs, chicken. Some more unusual offerings can be found, such as barbequed turkey and smoked kernel corn. They also offer excellent sides and pound cake for dessert.
Triple J’s Smokehouse has been named Best BBQ Joint in Houston by 102 FM radio listeners, and is also one of the “17 Texas BBQ joints you need to try before you die,” according to Wide Open Country. It has all the favorites, too, plus an unusual dish, smoked boudain. Houstonia magazine says, “the smoked boudain at Triple J’s Smokehouse is not to be missed. It’s a great example of the amalgamation of the pork-focused Southern barbecue tradition of East Texas with the Cajun/Creole flavors of Louisiana.”
Virgie’s Barbeque made the list of top 50 barbeque places in Texas Monthly. It was a convenience/grocery store for the neighborhood until Jesse and Virgie’s son, Adrian Handsborough, decided to serve the great BBQ he’d been making for the family, to the public! The rest is history, and it’s delicious.
