All Things Bike
Bike Houston is a local organization dedicated to All Things Bike. It educates people about bike routes within the city and how to ride safely through the city. With the goal “to transform our city by creating safe bikeways to improve the quality of life of all Houstonians,” Bike Houston is just one of the many reasons why living in Houston, TX is so rewarding.
Bike Houston sponsors frequent group excursions that encourage residents to stay outside and be active. These events are meant for other adventurers, bike enthusiasts or for residents looking to find new and friendly faces in the neighborhood.
The first Sunday of each month, for example, Bike Houston conducts a Bayou Ride that teaches locals how to access and ride about the bayou on their bicycles. The Ride begins at Market Square, 301 Milam Street (by NikoNiko’s) at 8AM. It is a slow and easy ride, with more than 50% taking place on paved roads. The ride takes about 3 hours to complete. Participants are urged to bring helmets, water and an extra tire tube (for safety just in case).
Bike Houston bikers often participate in other local Houston events too. They supported the first responders, Missouri City Green and City of Missouri bicycle initiatives during the Brazos River Bike Rally that took place at the end of March. Again, on April 9th, the group plans to attend the Art Car Parade, which celebrates the Final Four March Madness teams. For more information on upcoming events, check their calendar here.
