Houston Arboretum & Nature Center
Get outside and explore the 155 acres of the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, situated on the western side of Memorial Park! This portion of the park was originally the location of a World War I training camp for the Army and, later in the 1950s, was designated as a sanctuary and botanical garden. Best of all? It's only a 15-minute drive from Alexan Enclave!
The Arboretum is home to the Discovery Room where visitors can learn via interactive exhibits about the city's habitats and wildlife. The Nature Center offers classes on variety of subjects such as propagating native plants and which plants are best for butterflies. They also offer adult-friendly classes about nature-inspired subjects. These classes provide wine and food for participating guests.
The park is open to visitors of all ages and offers walking trails that range in length from one quarter mile to two miles. You may bring your dog, but he must stay on his leash during the entire length of your visit. Picnicking is not allowed on the grounds of the Arboretum and Nature Center, but is allowed at Memorial Park. Plus, the area around the Nature Center is home to a wide variety of restaurants serving everything from Mexican to Mediterranean cuisines.
The grounds and walking trails are open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but the Arboretum is closed for events and major holidays. One of the many benefits of living at Alexan Enclave is that the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center and other attractions are a short drive away.
