Enjoy a Day of Kayaking Fun
You've explored Houston on foot and by car.
But have you ever explored the city by kayak?
If this sounds fun to you, head to Bayou City Adventures.
The knowledgeable guides will lead you down Buffalo Bayou where you can see everything from wildlife to stunning skyline views. The bayou is a state designated paddling trail, and tour options include:
Houston Skyline Tour
The Houston Skyline Tour is one of the best ways to see the city. It stretches nearly eight miles and features sites such as Memorial Park and the Hogg Bird Sanctuary. Kayakers also see the Waugh Bridge Bat Colony. It's home to Mexican free-tailed bats that emerge nightly. They reside here throughout the year and are believed to be the largest Mexican free-tailed bat colony that lives in Texas year-round.
River Oaks Tour
Perfect for beginners and bird watchers, the River Oaks tour spans 5.65 miles from Woodway Memorial Park to the Lost Lake Visitor Center. Paddlers take in the amazing architectural designs of the River Oaks neighborhood. They also spot birds such as Carolina wrens. These charming creatures feature rounded bodies, long tails, and reddish-brown upperparts. Males sing a series of whistled notes, and each male has different song variations.
With twists, turns, and small rapids, the Navigator's Tour offers a few challenges. Along the way, highlights include Briar Bend Park and the Chimney Rock Bat Colony. This adventure is best for intermediate level paddlers.
Quick Start to Kayaking
No previous experience is necessary for most of the tours. However, lessons are available for anyone who would like in-depth instruction before hitting the water.
Kayaking is just one of the recreational activities that you can enjoy as a resident of Alexan Enclave Apartments. If you're searching for a place to call home, please contact us. We would love to give you a tour.
