Where to Sip Tea Around Houston
Did you know that there are approximately 1,500 different types of tea?
Over three million tons of tea are produced worldwide every year, and if you would like to enjoy a cup, the best destinations in Houston include:
Happy Teahouse & Cafe
Since 2009, the Happy Teahouse & Cafe has offered a comfortable setting where everyone can study or catch up with friends. It's open until at least 2:00 a.m., and pool and air hockey tables add to the fun. The teas are made in fresh batches two to three times daily, and choices include Thai, black, and tapioca green. Guests who are hungry can enjoy fried rice or Vietnamese sandwiches.
Established in Taiwan, The Teahouse was born from a desire to serve traditional Taiwanese tea to family and friends. The first U.S. location opened in Houston's Hong Kong City Mall eight years later, and it became the first Taiwanese cream teahouse in the city. The staff takes pride in hand selecting the teas, and flavors include honey apple, hazelnut, and passion fruit.
McHugh Tea Room
The McHugh Tea Room offers the finest and most full-bodied teas from around the world. Nestled in nearby Bellaire, this family-owned business was the first tea room to call the city home. It offers friendly service and an elegant atmosphere with chandeliers and black and white photographs. The dishes are made using three generations of family recipes, and tea flavors include cherry sencha, black raspberry, and white mango pear.
Guests can enjoy afternoon tea Monday through Saturday between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. It features sandwiches, scones, desserts, and a bottomless pot of tea.
