The City's Museum Shops Feature One-of-a-Kind items
Whether you're searching for a holiday gift or something special for your mom's birthday, head to one of the city's museum shops.
They offer one-of-a-kind gifts, and include:
Museum of Fine Arts Shop
Called "One of the Most Cleverly Curated Museum Shops in America" by The New York Times, the MFA Shop is open six days a week and features artful gifts, colorful jewelry pieces, and fascinating books. Visitors don't have to pay the museum's admission to shop, and the friendly staff is always happy to answer any questions.
The Shop at Bayou Bend
Nestled in the River Oaks neighborhood, Bayou Bend is the MFAH museum for decorative arts and paintings. It welcomes thousands of visitors every year, and The Shop at Bayou Bend provides a fun shopping experience in a cozy boutique setting. While the products range in price, they all represent the beauty of the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. They're created by skilled artisans and include mugs, pillar candles, and throw pillows.
Located inside the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, the Asher Gallery is where shoppers can collect the works by the center's newest artists while learning more about craft making. One of the artists not to be missed is Tom Philabaum. For more than forty years, he has created glass art and is best known for his Reptilian Series. In this series, he can layer up to twenty layers of glass and different pigments to create the texture and depth of color within each piece. Tom has won numerous awards, and he is one of two glass artists on display at the gallery.
