Sip Drinks at One of Houston's Secret Bars
Whether you enjoy sipping local beers or old-fashioned cocktails, head to one of Houston's secret bars where you'll find these choices and more:
Houston Watch Company
The Houston Watch Company serves delicious drinks in a historic building. Constructed in the early 1900s, the building was once the home of the Houston Watch Company which kept official time for railroad employees. Eater recognized the bar as one of the best places to drink cocktails in Houston, and it features a cozy upstairs seating area complete with leather couches. Behind the bar, the bartenders make old-school cocktails four ways, and each is crafted with a different base such as traditional rye, agave, or gin.
Mongoose Versus Cobra
Nestled on McGowen Street, Mongoose Versus Cobra is located inside an ivy-covered building constructed in 1915. It was once a grocery store and mixes industrial aesthetics with a homestyle design. The beers are selected for their particular merits, and the draught system was hand-built to serve them best. Mongoose Versus Cobra has gained recognition by Southern Living Magazine and the Houston Chronicle, and beers include Held on Saison, Ryes from the Ashes, and Irish Channel Stout.
Established in 1972, Marfreless is found in a nondescript building and is only identified by its signature blue door. It is known for its swanky atmosphere and is complete with dim lighting, comfortable seating, and great music by Etta James and Amy Winehouse among others. The bar is a popular date night destination, and it boasts a four-star rating on Yelp as everyone enjoys its unique setting. The staff is friendly, and the Old Fashioned is one of the most requested cocktails.
