Enjoy a Picnic Around Houston
Enjoying a picnic with friends is a fun way to enjoy a sunny day.
The next time you're ready to pack a basket full of fried chicken, the best picnic destinations in Houston include:
Nestled at the southern edge of the Museum District, Hermann Park is found in one of the most scenic areas of the city. It was one of the first parks in Houston, and there is plenty to do after a picnic as it's home to the Houston Zoo, Miller Outdoor Theatre, and the McGovern Centennial Gardens.
Encompassing twelve-acres, Discovery Green is an urban park known for enriching life in Houston. It opened downtown in 2008 and welcomes more than 1.5 million visitors each year who come to play sports and listen to live musical entertainment. Several distinct areas stand out for their landscaping and public art, and visitors have plenty of space to enjoy their delicious meal.
Market Square Park
What was once home to four city halls over one hundred years, is now the site of Market Square Park. Picnickers can enjoy picturesque views of the city's skyline as well as explore Lauren's Garden. The garden honors Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas who was a passenger on Flight 93 and features seasonal flowers and pieces by Houston sculptor Ketria Scott.
Mandell Park is a scenic retreat that at one time was a wasteland. After enjoying a picnic, visitors can learn about the various habitats for insects and see examples of plant species that are part of our natural history.
