Houston's Taste of the Nation Event Benefits a Good Cause
The month of May brings a renowned culinary event that features the region's top chefs and pitmasters who join together to make sure all children receive nutritious meals.
Since 1998, this event has raised more than $2.5 million to help end childhood hunger.
It takes place on the 22nd, and guests can sample bites from restaurants such as:
The chefs at Main Kitchen serve American comfort food, and they draw inspiration from the local flavors and ingredients of Texas. It is one of the city's favorite restaurants, and the menu includes blue corn crab cakes, spiced lamb meatballs, and crispy chicken breast.
Louie Mueller Barbecue
Louie Mueller serves some of the best barbecue in Texas. It opened in 1949, and its reputation has earned it the nickname "Cathedral of Smoke." The restaurant has received the American Classics award presented by the James Beard Foundation, and while the menu has changed slightly from the early days, the dedication to producing quality barbecue has not. Meals include beef ribs, brisket, and jalapeno sausage.
Brennan's of Houston
Brennan's of Houston is known as the "Crown Jewel of Texas Creole Cuisine and Southern Hospitality." The restaurant is frequently named a "top restaurant" among local and national publications, and during its forty year history, it has survived floods and hurricanes and even took a direct hit from a tornado. The menu items are made with fresh ingredients, and choices include barbecue shrimp & dumplings, sugarcane smoked beef ribs, and Hunter's Honey roasted duck.
