Explore the City's Art Galleries
Did you know that Houston ranks among the top cities in the country in its population of working artists?
Their works can be seen in galleries throughout the city including:
The Archway Gallery opened in 1976, making it one of the oldest artist owned and operated galleries in the United States. It has played a key role in the lives of more than one hundred local artists, and one is always on site to offer guests a personal insight into their creative process. Upcoming exhibitions include the Empty Bowl Invitational (benefits the Houston Food Bank) and Dwellings.
Barbara Davis Gallery
For the last thirty years, the Barbara Davis Gallery has brought groundbreaking contemporary art to Houston. It was one of the first galleries in the state to be included in the prestigious Art Basel art fair in Miami Beach, and its exhibitions have been featured in publications such as Art in America and The New York Times. One of the upcoming shows includes the works of Yuriko Yamaguchi, and it runs from May 18th through June 23rd. Yuriko is a Japanese artist whose sculptures explore the interconnectedness of humans and nature.
La Colombe d'Or Gallery
The La Colombe d'Or Gallery is found in the Montrose mansion-turned-hotel of the same name. It is named after a historic inn in France's Cote d'Azur region that became a haven for modern artists such as Pablo Picasso, and it represents painters from across the globe. A broad range of styles from abstraction to impressionism are showcased, and in addition to oil on canvas paintings, guests also see works on paper by Dali and Man Ray among others.
