Don't Miss the Entertaining Productions at the Alley Theatre
Alexan Enclave is an easy drive from one of the most innovative professional resident theater companies in the United States.
We are talking about the Alley Theatre, and during the 2014-2015 season, it underwent a $4.6 million renovation which marked the first major improvements since the theatre opened in 1968.
More than five hundred productions entertain audiences every year, and those upcoming include:
The Great Society (January 26 - February 18)
Those who saw the theatre's award-winning production of All the Way in 2017, won't want to miss The Great Society. Written by Robert Schenkkan, it continues the story of Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency. The play covers between 1965 and 1968 when he struggled to fight a war on poverty while at the same time the Vietnam War was going on.
Lover, Beloved: An Evening with Carson McCullers (February 9 - March 11)
Mark your calendar for the world premiere of Lover, Beloved. This production stars Grammy Award-winner Suzanne Vega who will take the stage to pay tribute to Carson McCullers. She was an outspoken, wild dreamer who became known as one of the brightest literary lights, and audiences can learn about her fascinating story through music.
Satchmo at the Waldorf (February 24 - March 18)
Set in 1971, Satchmo at the Waldorf transports audiences to New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel where trumpeter Louis Armstrong is trying to compose himself before his final show. But before the performance, his mind wanders through his amazing journey through life and the complicated relationship with his manager. In what's being called a tour de force performance, the theatre states that one actor journeys into the heart of a musical genius and the man behind the legend.
