Visit Mikki's Cafe For Southern Soul Food
Are you craving a filling plate of macaroni and cheese or a bowl of pepper steak just like your grandma used to make? One of the best new places for southern comfort food is Mikki's Cafe at 375 Greens Rd. in Houston. This is their second location and their original restaurant has been bringing soul food favorites to the city since 2000.
Mikki's Cafe is a family-owned restaurant, and they put an emphasis on preserving Houston culture and embracing classic southern flavors. On the menu, you'll find turkey wings, served with mashed potatoes and a creamy gravy. Another favorite is the stewed oxtail, and of course, you can't go wrong with the fried catfish or smothered pork chops. Don't forget the sides! Guests love the candied yams, which will remind you of Thanksgiving, along with the delectable collard greens.
Mikki's Cafe is a great place to stop when you're in a hurry. You order at the counter, and they assemble a tray or takeout container just for you. The portions are generous, and there's plenty of space to sit and dine with friends. There is often a long line at lunch time and early in the evening, but this just speaks to the quality of the food; it's worth the wait!
This cafeteria-style restaurant is open daily from 11:00 am - 8 pm. They close early at 7:30 pm on Sunday. Mikki's does offer takeout and they have a TV that's often tuned to the latest game.
